Dr. Várdyné dr. Huszár Ágnes, 1939. ján. 3. – 2022. július 18. Professzor, irodalom-történész és regényíró. 1955-ben volt a 34. lcscs. Cleveland kelet oldali rajparancsnoka ameddig 1957-ben lett a 33. sz. Szilágyi Erzsébet lcscs. alakulásának az első parancsnoka, 1958-ig. Majd 1962-63 újból vállalta a csapat vezetését. Pittsburghban élt sok évig.

Agnes Vardy Obituary

Dr. Agnes Huszar Vardy, Ph.D., professor of English and Communications at Robert Morris University and adjunct professor of Comparative Literature at Duquesne University, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022, in Budapest, Hungary. Dr. Vardy received her doctoral degree from Eotvos Lorand University (ELTE) in Budapest and taught at Robert Morris from 1970 to 2001. She was the author, co-author or co-editor of 11 scholarly books and over 100 articles, essays and reviews. She was also the author of two historical-social novels: Mimi (English 1997, 1999, 2007; Hungarian 1997, 2007) and My Italian Summer (English 2007; Hungarian 2013). She was an invited member of the International P.E.N. (1985) and a plenary member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2004). She received numerous awards for her scholarly achievements, including Hungary’s „Berzsenyi-Prize” (1992), Arpad Academy’s „Gold Medal” (1998), Rakoczi Foundation’s „Pro Libertate Award” (2005), Gold Medal of the Hungarian Revolutionary Committee (2006), and an Honorary Doctorate from King Louis the Great University (2007). Most recently, she was honored (jointly with her husband) with a Festschrift entitled Hungary Through the Centuries: Studies in Honor of Professors Steven Bela Vardy and Agnes Huszar Vardy. She is survived by her three children, Nicholas, Zoltan and Laura; and three grandchildren, Szofi, Victor and Vera; sister, Beatrix Detky; and brother, Joseph Huszar. A memorial service will be held for Dr. Vardy Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest, followed by a reception.
