Make plans to visit Ohio’s largest Hungarian festival on Sunday of Labor Day weekend, September 4, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the German Central Park, 7863 York Rd., in Parma, Ohio. Presented by the American Hungarian Friends of Scouting, the 66th Hungarian Festival, includes delicious food, live musical entertainment, colorful authentic folk costumes, folk dance lessons and more!

The festival will commence at 10:30 a.m. with a flag raising ceremony followed at 11 a.m. with catholic and protestant church services in Hungarian. The kitchens open at noon serving Hungarian delicacies to satisfy the palate with servings of chicken paprikas with dumplings, stuffed cabbage, Hungarian sausage, grilled pork steak, jam filled crepes, and “lángos” (fried dough). The Café Budapest will feature scrumptious tortes, pastry, strudel, and espresso coffee. All foods are available for take-out.

Musical entertainment will be provided live all afternoon by local talent Walt Mahovlich and Harmonia and from Chicago Alex Udvary and his band. The Hungarian Scout Folk Ensemble and members of the scout troops will perform in their colorful authentic folk costumes throughout the day from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be free Hungarian folk dance lessons for all ages! DJ Laszlo Bohar will play Hungarian hits from 6 p.m. until close. Programs such as a live animal show, free kids’ activities, soccer match, a book fair, folk art, and crafts, souvenirs and novelty items for sale will round out the festivities.

All proceeds will benefit and support the activities of the nearly 250 Hungarian boy and girl scouts in Northeast Ohio. The first Hungarian scout troop in North America was established in Cleveland in 1951.

Admission is $9.00, free for children under ten. Parking is free, with handicapped spaces near the entrance gate and accessibility throughout the park. No coolers and no pets please. The festival is supported by a generous grant from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and the Bethlen Gabor Foundation in Hungary.
